Tensions flare at Pulaski County School Board meeting

A Pulaski County Special School Board meeting turned contentious Tuesday night when board member Karyn Maynard reported to police that fellow board member Tina Ward charged at her while yelling in response to a comment about her habitual tardiness.

The altercation occurred just before the board entered an executive session to review finalists in its ongoing superintendent search. Maynard said Ward shouted, "I am done being disrespected by you," and had to be separated by another member.

Ward later defended her attendance record, saying she is “out there serving the community.” Ward also serves on the Pulaski County Quorum Court. Maynard walked out during board comments, calling the discussion "unproductive," and two other members exited before adjournment. Though no charges were filed, a report was made for documentation.

The district is currently interviewing six finalists for superintendent, with a hire expected by July 1. Tensions on the board appear to be escalating as leadership decisions loom.
